wainscoting and diy project

Flipping through blogs again and thought how nice it would be to install my own wainscoting behind my couch. I have a small L-shaped wall that my sectional couch sits on. Both couch and wall are kakhi color, verying colors. I thought it would be nice to do a tall wainscoting of some sort to break up that area and to give the room added interest. Would it be weird to just do a focal wall?
